Jock Phillips

Jock Phillips is one of New Zealand’s leading historians who has published books on such subjects as stained glass windows, war memorials, immigrants, royal tours and Kiwi men. In the 1990s he became interested in new ways of presenting the past, and led the team developing the history exhibitions at Te Papa, the Museum of New Zealand. He then discovered the web and was instrumental in the development of two history sites – www.nzhistory.net.nz, a lively site on New Zealand history, and www.dnzb.govt.nz which includes 3000 biographies of significant and representative New Zealanders. Since 2002 he has been General Editor of Te Ara, the Encyclopedia of New Zealand, (www.TeAra.govt.nz) which already has about 450 entries and about 10,000 images, maps and interactives.
