Katelijn Verstraete
Katelijn Verstraete(魏凱玲), a Belgian national, joined ASEF in 2006 as Assistant Director Cultural Exchange. She is managing the 3 pillars of cultural exchange: artists practises, networks and platforms for exchange & policy and dialogue while being inter alia specifically in charge of the recently soft launched www.Culture360.org, contemporary dance projects, new media projects and the connect2culture programme. Between 1995 and 2002 she worked as marketing manager Greater China for a multinational in China. Passionate about culture, she co-founded and co-managed Biz-Art, an autonomous art space in Shanghai, from 1999 till 2003. After her return to Europe, Katelijn worked with the KunstenFestivalDesArts in Brussels in press and public relations followed by her assignment as Communication Manager for IETM, the International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts based in Brussels. She initiated the Asia project activities for IETM and was project manager for www.on-the-move.org , a web portal with information on mobility for arts professionals in the performing arts in Europe. This brought her in touch with the opportunities and challenges for online cultural content in and outside Europe.
Katelijn holds an MA degree in Sinology from K.U.Leuven (Belgium), finished her thesis on “5th generation of Chinese movie makers” while studying for 2 years in China (Nanjing Normal University) and obtained an MA degree in Marketing Management from the Leuven-Ghent Vlerick School for Management (Belgium). Katelijn is consultant for several cultural NGO structures in China and is passionate about languages and about connecting people.
